The landscape of Central Park is viewed from the unique perspective of windows and terraces above, from the fourth floor to 64 stories above the Park. Inspired by Ruth Orkin who photographed Central Park from a single window in the mid-1970’s. Betsy Pinover Schiff imagined what might be seen from windows on all four sides of the Park. The photographer’s journey took her to more than 100 apartments, offices, hotels, and museums over the course of five years. The book includes quotes by 16 notable people about their experiences looking from their windows to the Park, including Giorgio Armani, Candice Bergen, Donald Trump and others.
“Betsy Pinover Schiff offers new and often astounding perpectives on the landscape of Central Park. She sees and feels both the dramatic and lyric moods…Her eye catches fleeting moments in which shadow and color form indelible impressions on us. Her images enable us to greater appreciate Central Park as a marvel of both urban ecology and landscape architecture.”
….Douglas Blonsky, President, Central Park Conservancy
“This beautiful book opened a new world to the image of Central Park that I thought I knew so well. The production and design are outstanding, but most of all the photographer has an amazing eye to present the park in a way that is different and utterly enchanting. These bird’s eye views are no longer just for the fortunate few who live in the surrounding buildings – but for anyone who enjoys Central Park and wants to experience it from their own magic flying carpet.”...........Ngaere Macray
